Imaginary play is so important for children, it helps them process their world, learn boundaries and develop their creativity and imagination.

Which is why we love open ended toys like Mega bloks.

Benefits of building blocks

Mega bloks is a wonderful tool for early childhood development.

Not only do they build imagination and develop creativity but Mega bloks building blocks also develop skills in colours, numbers, shapes and even the alphabet.

All Mega blok toys are designed to click, slide or fit onto the Mega bloks assisting your child to combine all their toys to get more enjoyment from their play.

Knowing this Mega bloks have a fun formula of play ….

Bag + 1 =fun

By combining a fun toy, like this Mega bloks tool box with a bag of Mega bloks building blocks your child’s imagination is the limit.

Let’s play

As I mentioned, we love Mega bloks and Hamish has been spending his time using his Mega bloks and Mega bloks tool set, constructing new homes for his toys.

This cute tool set comes with 36 pieces and includes:

  • A spirit level
  • Hammer
  • Screw driver
  • 2 screws
  • 2 nails
  • 4 blocks with screw images
  • Building plans
  • A block containing a gear
  • Sturdy tool box storage
  • 36 pieces of Mega bloks

I love watching him in play, as he uses the tools ( including the spirit level to see it’s even) and follows the building plans to become a master builder and create the buildings he imagines.

Competition- win a composite photo from Photography by AllyK

Enter the world of fairytales and make believe with photography by AllyK.

We recently had this beautiful composite photo made for Hamish, imagining him in a land of dinosaurs chatting to Dennis the diplodocus.

We had spent the day before taking images, because with social distancing we couldn’t get Ally to take the photo. I told Hamish I wanted to get photos of him pretending he had seen a dinosaur.

After receiving this increadibly special photo, I told Hamish I had seen him dreaming, and that in his dream he was talking to a diplodocus and so I took a photo.

He was delighted. My dino loving boy suddenly had a photo depicting his favourite adventure.

I am so impressed with our composite photo that I have collaborated with Ally to giveaway a beautiful composite photo of their little one to one lucky Fun mamma SA follower.

You can choose from one of the following magical themes:

*Angel wings

Win a Barbie Dream Big Board Game

We recently recieved a Barbie Dream Big Board Game.

As a huge fan of Barbie, a mom and an educator I was excited when I sat down with designer Janine Van Schalkwyk, a mom of 3, and listened to her inspirations behind this innovative new board game that is designed to encourage and empower our young girls to “Dream big” .

About the game

This Proudly South African career based board game, developed around the iconic Barbie brand, is designed for girls age 8 to 12 years old to encourage them to know that they can “Be Anthing”, just like Barbie.

To date Barbie, who started her career 60 years ago as a fashion model, has added over 200 careers to her resume. Representing a diverse number of careers from rock star to CEO.

The Barbie Dream Big Board Game encourage young girls to envision themselves in a future career path by emphasizing the brand’s core message that “YOU CAN BE ANYTHING” and equiping them with real – life insights that encourage the discussion of topics such as – individual identity, subject choices, study options, personal talents and business ethics.

What’s in your game

Each board game comprises of :

  • A board game which unfolds and shows a diversity of Barbie faces, hair styles and skin colours.
  • 8 free standing Barbie figurines, printed on styrene. Each figurine depicts Barbie in a different career path.
  • A spinner, that clips together
  • A pink timer
  • 4 sets of cards representing different career paths.

How to play

The game is for 2 to 8 players. Whilst aimed at girls age 8 – 12 , younger girls could play with assistance.

A great family game and a wonderful resource in the modern day classroom.

Each player starts by choosing a figurine and takes a turn to spin the spinner in the centre of the flower on the board game.

The first person to land on pink starts the game.

The game continues clockwise and whatever colour the spinner stops on, that is the colour card you pick up.

The objective of the game, as you move around the board, is to answer the fun yt eeducational and challenging cards that have been divided into topics of :-

  • Question cards – these are aimed at educating by building a child’s general knowledge.
  • Action cards – these cards are interactive and will require your child to draw, or act out a specific scenario. Keep a pencil and paper handy. Your child will need to complete the task before the timer runs out.
  • Problem cards – these cards encourage your child to think about ethical issues they may encounter in a real life work situation.

The cards are colour coded and focus on 4 career paths …

1. Business (teal) – focusing on age appropriate insight on how to build a business and brand.
2. Help and Service (yellow) – focusing on comunity building careers and inspiring girls to give back to their community.
3. STEM (purple) – focusing on exposing girls to a variety of role models in the often under represented career paths of Science, Tehnology, Engineering and Mathematics.
4. Creative (pink) – focusing on the creative opportunities in arts, performance art, fashion, interior design, cooking and baking.

The cards present challenging questions that will encourage your child to find answers, learn more and think outside the box whilst preparing our young girls for the tomorrow of their dreams.

WIN one free term at Moms and Babes Tableview

When bear was 6 weeks old we started with Vanessa at her very first Moms and Babes class in Tableview.

Bear fell in love with Vanessa from that first class. In her soft gentle manner she taught me many things over our moms and babes journey.

Bear made some of the cutest friends and I loved watching him advance in his milestones as he learnt a new skill in class.

We both enjoyed the social engagement and as I was in a moon boot for most of his moms and babes lessons Vanessa often stepped in and helped bear with his lesson.

One of the best things we invested in were his moms and babes and moms and tots classes.

You can win a free term for your little babe of 6 weeks to 6 months at the Tableview moms and babes branch in Cape Town.

To enter :

Show us your cute handmade father’s day cards and we will choose a winner on the 12 June 2018.

Like both Moms and babes Tableview and Fun mamma SA on Facebook and post your cards to the Fun mamma SA Facebook page.

Competition is open to moms with babies 6 weeks to 6 months who are able to attend the weekly classes in Tableview only.
