How to clean your Cricut blades

Cricut crafting can become quite costly when you start to invest in different blades and accessories to advance your crafting skills and so, you’ll want to keep all your Cricut accessories clean and in good condition.

How to Clean Your Cricut Blades

The Cricut Maker and Explore machines are compatible with many blades, each one with a unique shape and sharpness and use for particular materials and cutting tasks.
One issue that many crafters run into is working with a worn-down blade. ( This however takes time and is dependant on how often you use your blades. I have used my original Cricut Maker almost daily for a year and the blade is still sharp)However, wear and tear will happen. In some cases the best way to resolve your blunt blade is by replacing it. However, if it is just debris on the blade itself, making it duller you can clean your fine-point or deep-point blade with a tinfoil ball.
To try this aluminum foil trick, follow these steps:
  • First, remove the blade with its attachment piece from the tool housing.
  •  Depress the plunger on the blade holder and carefully stick it into your foil ball repeatedly. (This will remove any pieces of paper or vinyl that may be stuck on the blade)
  • Before reinserting the blade attachment, remove the blade tip.
  • Use a hard-bristled brush to wipe off any dust, making sure to get some of the bristles into the cavity where the blade goes.
  • Wipe it all down with a clean, dry paper towel.
  • Reinsert the blade tip,.
  • return the blade attachment to the tool housing.
You can do this periodically to extend your blade’s life . It is also advised to use this hack before and after any project that involves intricate cuts.
