January family
bucket list

Welcome to January 2026. We welcomed the New Year in quietly at home as a family and I must admit as I get older, I am more and more reluctant to head out during the festive season, preferring rather to stay off our roads and at home.
As I sat sharing New year messages and reading the wonderful social media posts depicting vision boards, words of the year and hundreds of resolutions….I realized not many of the families were planning ways to connect more in the new year.
This led to me thinking how we could start implementing intentional ways that we as families could both strengthen our bonds, spend more time with our families and start new traditions.
Below is my January Bucket list . We will be trying all of these this month.
1. HOST A PAINT AND SIP EVENING

We love being creative and it is really easy to set up a paint and sip evening. Grab your paints, papers or craft supplies and add a few snacks and your favourite drinks to the table. Invite your family to join and share their creative side.
2. RECREATE AN OLD PHOTO

This is a lot of fun, especially if the kids are older. You could break out the family photo albums and have the kids recreate their favourite baby pics.
3.MAKE A JANUARY SCRAPBOOK PAGE

I use online scrapbook templates on Canva to scrapbook photos, but you could use a fun scrapbook kit to build a new scrapping album
4.MAKE A JANUARY TIME CAPSULE

We made our first time capsules during covid. They are always so much fun to make. We include things like a nap of where we stay, personal items, photos and letters to our future self.
5. IN IT TO WIN IT GAMES

Keep boredom at bay with some easy In it Win it type games or easy family challenges.
6. HOST A MONTH END DINNER

I love this idea and honestly think it would be a great idea for families with older kids. A lovely way to connect monthly, catch up and share your memories, best moments and achievements.
7. ONE ON ONE DATE WITH YOUR CHILD

As a mom of 6 I would often take my kids to the shop alone, each one on a different day so that we could get some alone time and I vould focus just on them. With Hamish we go off once a month on a fun outing, for lunch or to enjoy something he enjoys doing. There’s something special about these one on one dates with your children, as it builds core memories.
8. HOST A FAMILY TRIVIA NIGHT

You don’t need much to host a trivia night. Gather the family, some snacks and a few general knowledge questions off the internet. You could buy a cheap trophy and hand this to the winner. See which family member holds the trophy the longest.
9.ENJOY THE STARS

Do we really need any prompting to go outside with a warm drink, blanket and enjoy the stars ?
10. HOST AN AWARDS NIGHT

I wish I’d thought of this when I was still homeschooling my older 6 children. I love the idea of hosting and awards night to highlight your families strengths, acknowledge their achievements and support their goals.
Let me know how many you and your family will be trying or what you think I could have added.
