Let’s grow sea monkeys

This weekend in a moment of either craziness or insanity, I once again ordered a sea monkey kit to try grow a few sea monkeys.
This Aquatic Hatchies kit was from Amazon and is part of the Weird science kits.
What are sea monkeys
Sea monkeys are type of hybrid brine shrimp that have been marketed and sold as a novelty instant live pet since 1957.
They are sold as a packet of dried eggs that hatch when they are added to water.
The brine shrimp are able to do this by utilizing a survival mechanism called cryptobiosis to remain dormant for years, and coming back to life in water.
These small crustaceans grow up to 0.5 inches, live in saltwater tanks, and are popular for their low-maintenance care.
About the kit

There are many differebt types of kits available and this particular kit comes with
a really cool tank
stickers
scoop
round dish
magnifying glass
pippette
eggs
feed
sand
instruction leaflet
This kit is a little different to the last one we tried as we needed to aerate the water and mix in enough salt.
The last one had chemicals that we added to prepare the water before adding the eggs.
Whichever kit you choose, your sea monkeys need salt water, oxygen and a warm temperature to survive. They should hatch in about 24 – 48 hours.

The kit is relatively easy to use and the instructions are written in an easy to follow fashion.
So,
Now we have a tank of sea monkeys in our classroom…….
Here’s hoping that we actually manage to get a few to hatch
Notes
If you purchase the kit try not to add all the eggs like we did. That way you can try a few times if your sea monkeys don’t hatch.
Follow the instructions thoroughly for the best results.
