Meet and greet with Stormers super stars

Our local Spar in Parklands, Cape Town, advertised a meet and greet with some of the super star rugby players from the Stormers and naturally I knew Hamish would want to attend to meet some of his rugby heroes.
What I wasn’t prepared for was just how long a full day is for a rugby crazy 9 year old waiting for 3pm to arrive.
There was nothing but rugby talk as I unsuccessfully tried to focus on our Maths and English lessons. I guess the saying is true ( well in our home on any thing to do with rugby day) “School is important but Rugby is importanter.” Lol.
3pm finally arrived and Hamish fished out his old Stormers top from when he was a mascot for the team. I won’t lie, I had a small lump in my throat seeing how much bigger he is in the top that he once drowned in and realizing this is the last year he can wear it.

Also I made a mental note to price framing the top for him as it has the squads signatures on as well as reminded myself to get him some new Stormers merch.
Brent arrived home and we headed to Spar in Parklands ready to brave the crowds. Hamish was well equipped with his Stormers flag and a marker to get the players to please sign.
On arrival, clover had set up a huge stand and the enterance of the Spar was blocked with Stormers fans all waiting patiently to meet their favourite players and grab an autograph.

Thankfully the queue was moving really quickly and we soon found ourselves at the front of the line.
Hamish confidently stepped forward , greeted each player and asked for an autograph whilst I played the perfect role as Hamishs personal photographer and captured the moment for him.

The players were amazing. Patiently posing for photos and most especially stopping mid sentence to give the kids in the crowd a little extra attention.
And
The smile on Hamish’s face as we walked back to our car was worth every bit of a full day of distraction.

As I watched my child among his heroes, dreaming that one day that would be him, I was reminded that in order to dream big you need to meet those who inspire you.
