August reflection

August reflection

August is always such a great month for me as it’s my birthday month and this August was no exception.

My birthday

My birthday was celebrated very quietly this year as Cape Town has decided to grace us with buckets of rain. Brent bought me a lovely new handbag and I was treated to some spoils from the kids. Somehow turning 48 doesn’t seem as exciting as turning 40. So, I’m happy to celebrate quietly until my 50th.

Some other great highlights in August were : –
Cricut
Cricut South Africa – I was part of some wonderful initiatives with Cricut last month as Cricut celebrated women’s month, collected hundreds of shoe boxes in the #MakeItForward initiative and we decorated socks for PNA – Colour your World #funkysocksday tomorrow. I had some inspirational #demdays and loved meeting new Cricut members Also Cricut launched in Bidvest Waltons Stores Nationwide. Did I mention how proud and honored I am to be a #CricutAmbassador
Birthdays
On the home front, my youngest daughter, Kerri, turned 19 & one of my sons, Shaun, turned 26. Having adult kids may be contributing to me not feeling any younger. As with adults, who have very busy lives to lead and exciting adventures to brave, we caught up with them after their birthdays to wish them and give them their gifts.

Ambassador
Kayleigh from Wild kids book launched a new book ( we do get excited when we see these ) and Hamish was announced as an official ambassador for Wildkids books. I love Kayleigh’s books, if you haven’t seen them yet pop over to https://wildkidsbooksa.mailchimpsites.com/
Interviews
Heather from South African Mom Blogs interviewed me for a feature on the SA moms blog. (You can read it here )
And I was interviewed for an article in Beeld – Die Burger – Volksblad: Leefstyl, reis en vermaak about sharing photos and details about your children online.

Campaigns
We had some great campaigns & press drops with Checkers , Prima Toys , Burt’s Bees , Fun Living , Mattel , Pips and Moo , The Fry Family Food Co. & The Crazy Store
Campaigns are one of my favorite parts of blogging. I love sharing new and trusted products with you. So many times, I will still share on a trade exchange basis as honestly, that was how my blog began – with one brand believing in me – and so I love to show that love back.
Movie screenings
We attended the screening of The best birthday ever at Nu Metro in Canal Walk Shopping Centre. This little story is beyond adorable as Charley bunny gets a little help from his friends to celebrate his best birthday ever.
And we also attended the VIP screening of Who’s My Daddy? Movie at CineCentre at GrandWest Casino and Entertainment World .
The screening was such a fun experience. We arrived to red carpet treatment and champagne. Delicious finger snacks served by Sun International and entertainment from Doctor Victor. I have officially decided the best way to watch any movie is with the cast as we sat in the cinema surrounded by so many of our talented Soth African actors and honestly their energy made the movie ambiance an out of this world experience. (watch my reel here )
The movie is about a wanna-be comedian and his quest to find out who his daddy is. It also stars the late screen legend,Sharlene Sertie Richards.
IF YOU WATCH ONE LOCAL MOVIE THIS YEAR …THIS IS THE ONE.
Hamish
Hamish joined his first extra murals. Rugbytots South Africa & Scouts South Africa
Lego
We donated some books to the wonderful LEGO Certified Store initiative with The Michelle Nkamangkeng foundation
Women’s day
I spent women’s day on Intaka Island with some wonderfully strong, amazing women. I was joined by my two daughters Tammi and Kerri, a cousin Ariel, Kerris friend Caroline and fellow blogging friend Elsche. We took a long stroll around the island after enjoying a fun and informative boat ride along the Canal Walk canals. Watch our fun reel here
Around Cape Town
Hamish and I spent a lot of time in our favourite space V&A Waterfront and we finally got to visit the Zeitz Mocca Cape Town art museum. Look out for my review of this stunning gallery.
I did my annual tourist in my city and enjoyed my free entry ticket from Two Oceans Aquarium
As well as using my birthday gift from the Wimpy SA app and enjoy a free waffle. As a mom, these little thank yous back from the brands and businesses we support mean the world to us and add a little extra on those long months when you are choosing between a treat for yourself and new school shoes for the kids.
By the way, have you read my blog post BECOME A TOURIST IN CAPE TOWN FREE ON YOUR BIRTHDAY
Blog Achievements
Talking about Blogs we came in at #6 this year in the Feedspot Blog Reader 60 Best South African Mom Blogs and Websites.

These awards are always such an honour for me as Feedspot is an RSS FEED and so distributes the blog posts worldwide. The blogs are judged on the following criteria:
  • Blog niche
  • traffic
  • social media followers
  • domain authority
  • freshness
And once again we thank you all because without you we would not be here.
So, after a phenomenally blessed August …..Here’s to a wonderfully productive September
Love
Judy & Hamish
