Fair Cape Dairies continue to Do The Right Thing

Last week Thursday we were invited to enjoy an educational visit to the Fair Cape Dairies farm.Several bloggers met to enjoy an enlightening talk on how Fair Cape Dairies have recently installed solar technology to ensure that all of their milking is done off-grid during daylight hours. We were greeted with a wonderful breakfast spread of donuts, coffee and fresh fruit juices from the Fair Cape factory. Once settled we were introduced to the running and workings of the farm, whilst beside us the cows were calmly being milked. You get a sense of serenity watching the cows and I was interested to learn that Fair Cape Eco-Fresh is the only single-origin dairy brand in South Africa. This means that all of the milk they produce only comes from the cows on their Fair Cape farm here in Cape Town . Knowing the Fair Cape motto ” DO THE RIGHT THING” it’s easy to understand why Fair Cape have chosen to introduce solar power and reduce their carbon footprint. The introduction of solar panels is not only a great saving on the environment but as solar energy produces no noise pollution, the cows will be less stressed and more comfortable in their environment. After our introduction we were treated to a tractor tour of the farm. Here we got to see the idealic scenery around us, the baby calves, the field where the cows who’ve calved or who may be ill are kept and toured the barns. The large barns are spotless and its easy to see that these cows are incredibly happy . They even have specially designed massage machines to scratch on.What was really fascinating is that Fair Cape Dairies recycle over 120 000 litres of water per day and the cow dung is used to fertilise the fields. After our really fun tour we watched the cutest animated movie that Fair Cape use to show the school children who visit the farm. A moo-velous story about a happy cow and the history and workings of the Fair Cape Farm. We then sampled some of the delicious products Fair Cape Dairies manufacture : milkshakes , milk and mousse. They also manufacture yoghurts and fruit juices.I hadn’t tasted their new coffee mousse yet and I’m just saying if you don’t enjoy coffee …you will after tasting this delicious caffine flavoured desert.Just before leaving we were all treated with a goodie bag of treats to take home including their new yellow lid fresh milk. The yellow lid is for a limited time to support national sustainable energy month.Thank you Fair Cape Dairies for an informative fun adventure. To learn more visit http://www.faircape.com
