Holiday on Ice at Capegate Shopping Centre this Festive Season

Holiday on Ice at Capegate Shopping Centre this Festive Season

Inspired by Disney, this year’s ice rink is bigger and better than ever and ready to welcome all

Back by popular demand this end of year holiday season, is Capegate Shopping Centre’s holiday ice rink, a fun way for children and young teenagers to cool down in the summer heat, whilst working off any excess energy. Inspired by Disney, the holiday activity is set to welcome young novice skaters and budding future skating champions from 9th December 2022 to 15 January 2023.

Located on the lower level of the centre, near Entrance 4, the rink will be 15 x 8 meter in size allowing for 25 skaters per session. The area will be suitably decorated to embrace the magic of the season including whimsical flowers and an array of Disney plush toys used to decorate their Christmas tree, a reminder that there is also a charitable element incorporated into the activity.  As it does with all its holiday events aimed at children and family, Capegate will once again be raising funds to support The Hyprop Foundation by donating proceeds from their gift-wrapping stations to the foundation.

R60 per skater gets an hour on the rink, including skate hire, with super friendly ice-elves on call to assist those who need a helping hand – parents of youngsters are also welcome to join their charges on the ice.  Parents, grandparents, and caregivers not skating get to watch from the side-lines for free, although the joy and enthusiasm that skating brings to everyone, is priceless.

“There has always been something magical about skating on ice,” commented Zoë Ganz, Capegate’s Marketing Manager, “and since hosting the Ice rink for the first time in the winter holidays, the centre has been filled with an extra special energy.  With lockdown restrictions behind us, we can’t wait for the centre to ring with the sound of laughter and enjoyment once again. Whilst skates will be available for hire, we do recommend that skaters please bring their own thick socks to keep those toes warm.” Skates will still be sanitised after each use, confirmed Ganz.

Ice-skating is a sport that combines grace, athleticism, and an appreciation for music all in one, and it has many health benefits too. From working every muscle group in the body to joint mobility and flexibility and feeling the thrill of gliding through the air.  With ice-skating champions often beginning their careers at the ages of 5 and 6 years of age, perhaps this year, Capegate’s Holiday on Ice could host South Africa’s future stars…mostly though, it’s the place to be to cool down and have fun this festive season.
