How to Create Images Using ChatGPT (Beginner-Friendly Guide)

As a Gen X mom I won’t lie, I’m mostly intimidated by AI but because Hamish is starting to learn to be more technical in his Coding and Robotic lessons,  I’m trying to get on board and learn a few new skills.

Last week we worked on a prompt from his Coding and Robotics lesson that had him design a school mascot and logo.

We sat together and used free ChatGPT and I taught him to prompt the AI program with enough details to get his desired results.

A few seconds later, a stunning mascot and logo were ready to be downloaded. I’m so impressed that we’ve adopted both in our homeschool

Not long after I discovering the power of chat gpt to create awesome images and a social media trend was doing the rounds as people turned themselves into caricatures….again I jumped on the trend and I may have become slightly obsessed!

I love being able to use our images in a more cartoon way to add a touch of fun to our learning , our social media platforms and to create an image to represent a holiday without it needing advanced design skills or expensive software.

And the best part …anyone can do it!

Whether you’re a parent, educator, homeschooler or content creator, AI image generation can help you create engaging visuals for social media, educational resources, and blog content.

So, I put together this short guide to show you how to create images using ChatGPT, the types of images you can make, and how to write powerful prompts for the best results.

How to Create Images in ChatGPT

Step 1: Open ChatGPT

Log into your ChatGPT account on your phone or computer.

Step 2: Describe Your Image

Type a clear description of the image you want. The better your prompt, the better your image.

Example:
“Create a cartoon image of a mother and son reading together on a couch, warm lighting, soft pastel colours.”

Step 3: Choose a Style

Tell ChatGPT what style you want the image in.

Popular styles include:

  • Cartoon

  • Realistic

  • Watercolour

  • Comic strip

  • Children’s book illustration

Step 4: Refine the Image

Not quite right? Just ask for changes. Keep describing the image in detail until you get the look you desire.

Step 5: Download and Use

Once you’re happy, download your image and use it for:

  • Blog posts

  • Instagram or Facebook

  • Homeschool printables

  • Marketing materials

  • Fun family photos
