Take a sunset safari at Aquila Private Game Reserve

The absolute highlight of my recent trip with Touwsrivier Tourism Association was a sunset Safari at Aquila Private Game Reserve.

We arrived at the reserve and were immediately taken to a large dining room to enjoy a cold beverage and a light meal before our 3 hour Safari began.

When we were ready we headed outside where several vehicles were taking turns to load up the people and head out into the wild.

Boarding the Safari vehicle was made easier with the platform and I quickly took my seat. Eager to see the big 5.

Our amazing guide explained, as creatures are wild and lead by their own natures that we may not encounter all 5 big five animals but he would do his best to show us as many as he could.

We found 4 of the big 5 and got really close to the water Buffalo, elephant and lion. The rhinos were close enough for us to see but across a waterhole.

Our guide was full of facts and his jokes had us giggling away as we kept our eyes open for the variety of bucks and other wild animals. We saw giraffe, zebra, buck and hippos.

I was impressed with the guides knowledge as well as his mindfulness to stop to allow both sides of the vehicle to take photos.

The lions were my favourite and they are kept in an open but secure encounter. I was truly suprised at just how calm they were.

At the half way stop on top of the hill, with the sun slowly starting to set, we disembarked the vehicle to take a bathroom break, enjoy some snacks and a drink. We were treated to a few baboons who wanted to join us.

And then it was time to head back with the birds singing overhead and the sun slowing casting her red and orange rays across the sky.
