Visit the Castle of Good Hope FREE this Freedom Day 

 

In celebration of Freedom Day, this Saturday, the Castle of Good Hope will grant free entry on the day for everyone to experience Cape Towns oldest building.

What to experience

There is always so much to experience at The Castle and we visit often, each time learning just a little more than we did before.

However, some of the highlights to look out for, especially if you haven’t visited for a while or if this is your first visit, are:

  • The Koena Art Institute
  • The Camissa Museum – The Peopling of the Cape
  • The Cape Heritage Museum
  • The Donkergat (Ammunition room) -which locks from the inside!
  • The torture chamber – with a great photo opportunities to get pictures of you in the shackles.
  • The prison cells
  • The Military Museum
  • The William Fare Collection ( Iziko Museums of South Africa)

Times

The Castle doors open from 9am till 4pm and the last tour is at 3pm.

Where to eat

The Saalam Mnandi Restaurant is also available for those who would like to indulge after touring the Castle of Good Hope with delicious African foods and Halaal food.

Kuier at the Castle

Whilst at The Castle on Freedom day, you can also join in the spirit of Ubuntu at the Kuier@TheCastle market.

Kuier@TheCastle is Cape Town CBD’s biggest new monthly market and showcases a diverse array of Cape Town’s creative talent against the backdrop of one of the country’s eminent cultural tourism attractions.

Visitors can look forward to an array of experiences for the whole family, which include:

Volunteer

You can also volunteer of your time and take part in a tree planting or help to clean the Castle’s moat.
