Canal Walk Shopping Centre’s Holiday Ice Slides Inspired by Disney make a welcome return
Hip Hip Hooray! Festive Season holiday fun is set to return to Cape Town this December and January 2023, with the launch of the Canal Walk Shopping Centre Holiday Ice Slides Inspired by Disney, which opens on 9 December 2022 and will run until 13 January 2022.
With summer already having arrived in the mother city, the chance to cool down with some chilled enjoyment – for young, old and the adventurous – is too good to be missed. The Holiday Ice Slides, which are this year once again inspired with a Disney theme, have proved very popular in the past.
To look forward to, are a snow zone for the little ones or anyone looking to build an ice castle with real snow; a series of Disney themed super slides with all the thrills and chills of height and twists of speed, as well as a double lane slide this year – for side-by-side healthy competition speed trials.
Parents and caregivers are invited to join in on the action too, or simply be spectators and watch the pure joy on the faces of their charges as they work off any excess energy and simply do what kids do best – laugh, smile, and have fun.
With the latest Disney movies and offerings on hand, there are plenty of opportunities to be snapped with characters from Wakanda Forever, as well as Mickey & Pals. For those who love to sing, there will also be a Disney+ Family Singalong karaoke booth.

Vanessa Herbst, Marketing Manager at Canal Walk is also thrilled that the centre will once again come alive to the sounds of carefree joy, saying: “Our holiday season activities are a great enjoyment for all of us at Canal Walk, from the planning to the execution, but I think I can safely say, that it is hearing and witnessing the pure innocent joy of a child as they experience these slides and all that comes with them, that are by far and away the best. Laughter is contagious and the centre vibrates with such an energy, it’s impossible not to be happy, and after the past couple of years where we’ve had to cut back on our events, I can’t wait.

Tis the season of giving, cheer and big smiles
As in previous years, the act of giving is very much a key focus for Canal Walk Shopping Centre and the Hyprop Foundation. Once again, they will be ensuring that Reach for a Dream and the good works this NGO performs, will benefit from their December activities including the Disney Charity Tree and Festive Gift Wrapping service.
Keeping the fun memories alive, is the option for families to capture the moment with the special Canal Walk Ice Slide Photos that can be printed on the spot to take home and treasure for years to come.
Reaching for the roof, will be a huge Christmas tree adorned with Disney plush toys, which will also be donated by the Hyprop Foundation to Reach for a Dream so they too can put a smile on a beloved child’s dial.
Stretching the smiles even further, Santa is happy to announce that he will be back to take photos with fans. Because he needs to travel all over the globe at this time of year he has set some times in place, and will be in Centre Court at Canal Walk Monday to Sunday from 10am- 6pm from 09 – 18 December and 10am – 9pm on 19 – 23 December. On 24 December, Santa will be on hand until 6pm, as he has a busy schedule ahead of him that night. Santa is still mindful however, that a socially responsible manner needs to be adhered to given the continuing presence of COVID-19.
Festive gift wrapping
The Canal Walk gift wrapping stations will be operational from 09-24 December 2022. They will be located in the Checkers and Pick n Pay courts. Gift wrapping fees vary from R15-R50, depending on the size of gift. Proceeds will be donated to Reach for a Dream.
Extended trading hours will commence from 15 – 23 December.
