Yesterday we visited Battery Park at the Waterfront.
I’m honestly not sure why it’s taken us so long to visit, but I honestly have just found my new favourite park in the city.
Have a look how much fun Hamish had here
About Battery Park
Battery Park us a FREE urban park and sports hub situated at the enterance to the Waterfront.
Built on the remains of what was once the Amsterdam Battery, constructed in 1784 to defend the city from land and sea attacks.
You can still see some of the canons in the park and read the history on the information plaques alongside them.
In 1905, a large portion of the Battery was destroyed to make way for a railway connection, leaving just a little of the original structure.
What to do at Battery Park
There is a multitude of activities to enjoy at Battery Park. Some of which include
-a skate park
– a scooter or bike path perfect for small kids. You could also use the path for running or gentle strolls.
– a basket ball court
– a mini soccer field
– a mini urban jungle gym, which was Hamishs favourite
Other things to note
There are also several small businesses next to the canal below the park and these include a mini grocer, cafes, Rollerblade, Little Optimist sailing academy and Sup capetown.
The canal offers water lovers a place to learn to sail and Sup.
There is ample little benches to sit on as well as a well manicured lawn perfect to pop a bean bag on or enjoy a picnic .
There are well maintained, clean and safe public toilets.
A beautiful water fountain lies next to the canal, great for the kids to run through.
The park offers gorgeous views of the city and canal.
For the fur moms it’s helpful to know that the park is dog friendly
A really great open space for the kids to keep busy and enjoy all Cape Town has to offer.
