This week I found a game I had bought at a charity shop called Incey Wincey Spider.
It is a set of double sided two piece puzzles that you build and then use a spinner and little pieces to see who gets to the top first.
Well, little bear is still a bit young to play the game but he is not to young to build the flat puzzles.
I gave him the pieces and he build the water pipes by matching the colours.
These colourful spiders then became the foundation of our theme – Incy Wincy Spider.
First I sang bear the rhyme and taught him the finger movements to accompany the rhyme.
He loves trying to wiggle his little fingers in a spidery way and this is fabulous for exercising those finger and hand muscles.
We went online and listened to the rhyme on this cute YouTube video HERE
I also found these cute images ( source unknown) that i printed to place in a folder to start making our own flip file of rhymes.
Along with this, as little bear is only 23 months old, I want to build on his vocabulary and speech so i made some flash cards for him.
As much as possible I will use realistic images as I prefer him to know from the start what a particular image looks like.
You can find the full set of Incey Wincey flash cards HERE
Over the next few weeks I will start to introduce concepts like opposites and this was the perfect way to introduce BIG and SMALL….
…… you get all shape and sizes of spiders.
After introducing the rhyme, bear and I did some ART activities and some WORKSHEETS.
His favourite was colouring the cute spider pictures.
I love playdough and don’t need a second invitation to bring it out. We often make our own.
Here are recipes i enjoy using. (Source unknown)
We made our own spiders from the dough and little bear learnt to roll the dough . This is quite tricky for little fingers.
It was a great theme , and bear loved the new rhyme. I suspect we will add on to this along the year.
