Discover these secluded beaches in the Western Cape

One of my New Years resolutions every year is to travel more and each year I choose a new theme and add that to my travel wish list.

Travel themes

A travel theme for me is something I want to invest myself into discovering. This could be museums or local restaurants. You might choose a province or culture in another country.

Some of my travel themes have been

  • 2015 – Lighthouses in South Africa
  • 2016 – Cape Town  tourist spots
  • 2017 – Cape Town hidden gems
  • 2018 – local wine farms
  • 2019 – local beaches
  • 2022 – Animal sanctuaries in the Western Cape
  • 2023 – Road trip to Zululand

I’m still deciding what our adventure for 2024 will be ….

However

I did discover four amazing secluded beaches in the Western Cape in the last few years and if you’re looking to add some adventure to your year, a visit to these beaches is a great way to start.

Secluded Beaches of the Western Cape

Windmill Beach – Simon’s Town

Cape Town

This lovely little beach is situated behind a golf course. An ideal and romantic spot for anyone who loves nature and white sand between their toes. It is also a popular wedding venue and photographer paradise.

The water is crystal clear at this sheltered beach with pristige white sands which makes it a great spot to swim and snorkle. Occasionally a seal or penguin may be spotted.

Rooi Els Beach – Rooi Els

Found in the little settlement of Rooi Els in the Cape Overberg Region, this is an incredibly popular swimming and fishing spot with the secluded pristine white beaches and endless ocean view.

The environment is perfect for shell fishing and you will need to obtain a permit before you go fishing or shell fishing.

Little Brak Beach – Mossel Bay

Cape Garden Route and Klein Karoo

6 km from Mossel Bay lies an undiscovered beach treasure. Little Brak beach boasts the Little Brak river mouth, a perfect spot to swim for hours.

The golden sandy beach is ideal for long walks and an ideal spot to take families and younger kids who prefer the calm waters of a river mouth over the waves of the ocean.
