The Cetury City Tramway
Have you traveled by Tram ?
As a young girl, my grandmother would fill our visits with tales of the trams she caught to work as a young woman so , I was most excited to recently catch the Century City Tramway.
The Century City Tramway is a vintage-style, battery-electric streetcar offering a 20-minute scenic leisure ride.
Operating on weekends and public holidays, it runs every 30 minutes, providing a quiet, eco-friendly way to explore the Century City waterways.
Location & Boarding
The Tram runs in a circular route between two main stops in Century City along the old Ratanga Junction railway lines.
You can board at either stop:-
Intaka Island Stop: Boarding at the Club House.
Or
Ratanga Park Stop: Boarding near the Century City Hotel/Bootleggers.
Brent, Hamish and I joined by my youngest daughter, Kerri and my baby grandson boarded from the Clubhouse in Central Park. Ready to experience the beautiful views along our ride.
The views were magnificent !
As you pass by the beautifully crafted homes, Canal Walk, gorgeous art pieces headed to Ratanga Park, you are once again reminded of just how peaceful this unique experience is.
Operating Times
Days: Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays (plus select school holidays).
Hours: 11:00 to 17:00 (Crew lunch break: 14:00 to 14:30).
Last Departure: 16:30.
Weather: Closed during wet weather.
Prices & Ticketing
Standard Return: R70 per person.
Day Pass: R100 per person.
(No pre-booking is required; tickets are bought directly from the crew at the boarding platform)
Special Offerings & Activities
Intaka Island Combo: You can combine your tram trip with an Intaka Island guided boat ride.
Vintage Dress-up: Passengers are encouraged to dress in 1920s-style vintage clothing for photo opportunities.
Precinct Activities: The tram connects to the wider Century City precinct, allowing you to explore the free Art Trail, nearby Canal Walk Shopping Centre, and the Slow Sunday Market at Central Park.
