How to colour rice for sensory play

Sensory play can be introduced to small children and one of my favourite sensory bin fillers is coloured rice.

Coloured rice is really cheap and easy to make.

It’s a wonderful addition to sensory trays, tactile play and learning colours.

Here is how to make your own….

How to colour rice

You will need:

🔸️2 to 4 cups of rice per colour ( depending on the quantity you require for play)

🔸️white vinegar

🔸️food colouring

🔸️Ziploc bags

🔸️wax paper

🔸️containers to store coloured rice

Method

In a ziploc bag , add your rice, a tsp of vinegar and a few drops of food colouring.

Shake well until all the colour is mixed.

If needed add a bit more vinegar to allow the colour to spread.

Dry on wax paper or a paper plate.

Leave for about 30-45mins

When your rice is dry store in an air tight container until needed.
